Minnesota Twins: The Slightest Of Favorites
The AL Central is expected to be the most competitive division in baseball this year, as the odds above would indicate. The slight favorite to win the division is the Minnesota Twins. Minnesota missed the playoffs last season with an 82-80 record. But they are hoping to be more explosive offensively this year thanks to the acquisition of Ty as they look to get back into the playoffs in the Central.
Cleveland Guardians: Aiming to Repeat
Last season, the Cleveland Guardians won the AL Central by 6.5 games over the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals. They followed that performance up with a 3-2 series win over the Tigers in the ALDS that earned them a series with the New York Yankees for the American League pennant. Cleveland lost that series in five games, but they were a threat for most of those games. It will be interesting to see if the Guardians can continue to build themselves up offensively to be a threat not just in this division, but for the pennant as well.
Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals: Looking to Upgrade Playoff Positioning
Last season, the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals both made the playoffs as Wild Card teams out of the AL Central. Both will be looking to become division champions this season and give themselves a much less stressful path into October baseball. For the Tigers, this will mean relying heavily on their pitching, as Tarik Skubal looks to defend his AL Cy Young award from a season ago.
As for the Royals, they were great at home last season thanks to some solid pitching and some offense that has shown flashes of brilliance. Consistency at the plate will be the key for the Royals this year. Bringing in Jonathan India from the Reds could help with that, as Kansas City looks to prove that it can be more than just a few individual stars.
Chicago White Sox: Another Rough Year Ahead
While it is hard to get a consensus opinion on who the best team in the AL Central will be, there is a consensus on who the worst team in the division will be. That is expected to be the Chicago White Sox, who finished last season with a staggeringly bad 41-121 record. Losing Garrett Crochet to the Red Sox, who has immediately moved into the AL Cy Young discussion, can’t possibly help this team that will simply aim for respectability in 2025 and beyond.
